Relating Different Lives

Human identity is the synthesis of many good and bad experiences; I believe human identity is best and most productive when derived from many competing sources. I have argued that the same goes for productivity and balance in a firm. If everyone in the firm is a corporate attorney, your firm will not be inventive. If all are risk managers, you will not understand the benefits of risk. And if some of you know how to make a product, but not sell it, you will fail.

Far too many forces seek like-mindedness in a firm, which weighs down a firm in time and produces what I call machine-like MBAs. Many MBAs I have met, or who have applied to work at the AHC Group, are mistrained to think of my firm as if it were a yacht, mathematically destined to go faster and further if you jettison some goods from it or add a smarter crew.
