4: Touch, Multitouch, and Gestures > GESTURE INTERACTIONS

GESTURE INTERACTIONS

Gestures are an extension of multitouch input, characterized more explicitly by specific movement and direction of the touch point interactions. Their definitive natures are encapsulated in a given term, like “zoom,” “pan,” or “swipe.”

Determining Which Gestures Are Supported on a Device

Support for various gesture input types should be determined within an application before they are utilized, similarly to touch points.

You need to use Multitouch.supportsGestureEvents to detect gesture support. In addition, you can retrieve exactly which types of gestures are supported by calling the

Multitouch.supportedGestures property, as in the following snippet:
if(Multitouch.supportsGestureEvents)
{
var gestures:Vector.<String> = Multitouch.supportedGestures;

      for(var i:int=0; i < gestures.length; i++)
      {
            trace(gestures[i]);
      }
}
