Sheldon Jacobs wrote, in 1974, the first self-help book ever on no-load mutual funds, Put Money in Your Pocket, introducing thousands of investors to no-load funds. It launched a notable career that enabled Jacobs to found a popular investment newsletter in 1979. The No-Load Fund Investor went on to become the number-one financial newsletter in America for risk-adjusted performance for the 15 years ending in 2006. In 1987, Jacobs co-founded—along with Bob Brinker, an ABC radio host and newsletter publisher—the BJ Group, a Registered Investment Advisor. Over 1,000 clients entrusted $600 million of assets to the BJ Group, which the firm managed on a discretionary basis. The Investor newsletter was later sold, but Jacobs continues as a contributing editor.
