Beginning a PRINCE2 Project

Figure 2.1 is taken from the “An End-to-End Walk-through of PRINCE2” section in Chapter 1, “Overview of PRINCE2.” If you haven’t read that section yet, I recommend that you do so before reading this chapter, as it gives a high-level overview of the PRINCE2 process model. You will then be able to understand the context of the two processes discussed in this chapter: Starting up a Project and Initiating a Project . In Figure 2.1, I’ve highlighted where those two processes sit within the whole model. You can see that Starting up a Project happens before the project starts. It contains a set of activities that help the Project Board determine whether to do the project. If the board decides to proceed with the project, then the activities in the Initiating a Project process are done. This is the official start of the project, during which you plan the project at a high level.
