Authorizing the Project and Authorizing the Stage
Once the Initiating a Project process has finished, the Project Manager sends a request to the Project Board asking them to authorize the delivery part of the project. The process model then moves on to the Directing a Project process and, in particular, to two activities that the Project Board are responsible for: “Authorize the project” and “Authorize a Stage Plan.” (Refer to Figure 2.1 to see how the process model works at this point.)
In “authorize the project,” the Project Board decides whether to authorize the delivery part of the project. If the answer is yes, they then decide whether to give the Project Manager authorization to commit resources to the next delivery stage, in the “Authorize a Stage Plan” activity. If the answer is yes to this as well, the Project Manager will then be allowed to manage the next delivery stage, after which he must report back to the Project Board.
