Chapter 6: Quality Theme > Quality Planning

Quality Planning

Quality planning involves the following aspects:

  • Defining the specification of the project’s products
  • Understanding how the products will be inspected and reviewed to see if they conform to their specifications and who should have responsibility for this review
  • Defining who should have responsibility for final approval of the products

In PRINCE2, the Project Product Description and the Product Descriptions define the specifications of the project’s products. The difference between the two is that for any project, there is only one Project Product Description that describes the overall output of the project, whereas there may be many Product Descriptions that describe all the individual components of the overall output.

For example, if you are the Project Manager of a project to build a hotel, you write one Project Product Description that describes the hotel at a high level. This document provides the overall specifications, such as how many rooms the hotel should have of each type (penthouse, double, single, and so on), how many floors it should have, and what the hotel’s main parts are (such as the lobby, a restaurant, a gym, or a swimming pool).
