The first thing you learned in this chapter was the PRINCE2 meaning of the word quality . In everyday speech, quality is often used to mean luxury. However, in PRINCE2, quality means fit for purpose. Quality management is the means by which a project ensures that products that are fit for purpose are created. There are four components to quality management: a quality system, which defines an approach to quality; a quality assurance function, which checks that the quality system is being implemented; quality planning, where the specifications of the products are defined; and quality control, which is a set of activities to verify that the right products have been or are being built.
