Change Theme Terminology

This section defines some common terms that PRINCE2 uses with regard to the Change theme.

Baselines

The PRINCE2 definition for a baseline is “a snapshot of a release, product and any component products, frozen at a point in time for a particular purpose.” What this means is that when a product is baselined, it is stored and protected from any unauthorized changes. A product might be baselined because it has just been approved. Changes to a baselined product can only be authorized using the issue and change control procedure . The issue and change control procedure ensures that the impact of these changes is considered and then authorized at an appropriate level of management. You will learn more about the issue and change control procedure later in this chapter.
