As mentioned earlier, there are many parts of PRINCE2 that help control the progress of a project. You already learned about many of these parts in previous chapters, but this section specifically describes what role they play in project control.
Project Board Controls
PRINCE2 enables the Project Board to control the project without the need to attend regular progress and decision-making meetings. This helps reduce the amount of management time the Project Board members need to dedicate to the project. The control mechanisms provided for the Project Board are described in this section.
Figure 9.5 is a simplified version of the diagram that you saw in Chapter 1, “Overview of PRINCE2.” This diagram provides an overview of the process model. Using the diagram and the explanation that follows, you will see that the Project Board has three main ways to control the progress of the project: by using authorizations, by monitoring progress, and by putting in place mechanisms to deal effectively with problems and changes.
