Nowadays, many clips are captured from digital files rather than from tape. There are specific workflows for capturing file-based media, which are discussed in the book, Media Composer 6: Professional Picture and Sound Editing. Often, these workflows use the Avid Media Access (AMA) method, which involves pointing your system to some kind of file folder and viewing the files before importing by consolidating or transcoding. But what if you just have a movie file on, say, a memory stick or that you’ve downloaded from the Internet and you just want to import it into your project? In that case, to import a movie file, you simply drag the file into your bin or right-click in the bin and choose Import from the menu that appears.
