Lesson 5 Paint Effects > Shape Creation - Pg. 176

176 Media Composer 6: Professional Effects and Compositing Shape Creation As shown in Figure 5.3, there are five tools for creating shapes: the Rectangle tool, the Oval tool, the Polygon tool, the Curve tool, and the Brush tool. You'll learn about all these tools next. Find the Paint EffectsShapes sequence in the Lesson 05 Paint bin and try the following examples. Rectangle tool Oval tool Polygon tool Curve tool Brush tool Figure 5.3 Shape tools. The Rectangle and Oval Tools The Rectangle and Oval tools allow you to create rectangular and oval objects, respectively. Use the Paint EffectShapes sequence if you haven't already loaded it. To draw a rectangle or an oval: 1. Apply the P AINT E FFECT to the soft water clip and enter Effect mode. 2. Select the R ECTANGLE or O VAL tool. 3. Click anywhere on the image. The cursor will change to a cross. 4. Drag the cursor down to the right and release the mouse button to create your shape. (There is no way to constrain the shape to a square or circle.) Custom-Made Shapes The Paint Effect has basic shape-creation tools. More complex shapes need to be designed from scratch using the Polygon, Curve or Brush tools. However, you will see later that certain third-party plug-ins have many more premade custom shapes. For example, Sapphire's Shape plug-in Boris's 3D shape tool called BCC Extruded Spline let you create polygons with as many sides as you like and apply all kinds of transformation to make stars and other shapes.
