Stabilizing

Stabilizing is a special case of tracking in which tracking data is used to eliminate the motion of the object you have tracked. The result is that a part of the image will be locked in space, but the edges will appear to move around. That means you always need to enlarge the image after stabilizing to compensate.

There are two ways to stabilize a shot:

image Using the Stabilize effect

image Using 3D Warp’s Position, Rotation, and/or Scale parameters

The Stabilize effect is by far the easiest way of stabilizing a shot, so we’ll discuss that here.

Note: The sharp eyed among you may have noticed a third option: the Region Stabilize effect, in the Image category. This was the best option before the super-duper Stabilize effect came along. Now, however, it is old and weary and best left well alone! What’s more, it is not real time—so even less reason to use it.
