6 Basic Techniques > Beginnings and Endings

Beginnings and Endings

Every slide show needs a beginning, a middle, and an end. How do you make a beginning look like a beginning? How do you make an ending look like an ending? Here are a few ideas to get you started.

Simple Curtain Opening

This is a simple technique that demonstrates using a transition to appear as a special effect. To my knowledge, pro photographer Mark Ridout first used this curtain opening technique when ProShow was just becoming popular.

The idea is simple: in the first slide, show nothing but a photo of a theatre curtain. Next, use ProShow’s Doors Open transition to transition to the next slide—the first real slide of your show. You can adjust the speed of the curtain’s motion by changing the duration of the transition. Voilà!
