Chapter 2 Nikon V1 Quick Start > Choosing the Focus Area Mode

Choosing the Focus Area Mode

You can specify where automatic focus is applied by choosing a focus area mode. The Nikon V1 can detect the subject and select the area to focus, you can do that yourself, the camera can follow a subject as it moves, or it can be directed to look for human faces and focus on them. To choose a focus area mode (when the camera is not set to manual focus), follow these steps:

1. Rotate the mode dial to the green Still Image mode icon.

2. Press the MENU button.

3. Scroll down to AF-Area Mode and press the right button to produce the screen shown in Figure 2.10.

4. Use the multi selector up/down buttons to select one of the focus area modes described next, and then press the OK button to confirm.

5. If you want to activate Face Priority (a separate setting), return to the menu and scroll down one additional entry to Face Priority AF. Press the right multi selector button, select On, and press OK to confirm.
