Choosing the right autofocus mode is another key to focusing success. Autofocus isn’t some mindless beast out there snapping your pictures in and out of focus with no feedback from you after you press that button. There are several settings you can modify that return at least a modicum of control to you.
Just press the MENU button when in Still Image mode or Movie mode, and navigate to Focus Mode in the Shooting menu. The screen shown in Figure 6.1 appears. Press the down directional button and select from AF-A, AF-S, AF-C, or MF (manual focus) when using Still Image mode, or AF-F, AF-S, or MF (manual focus) when using Movie mode. These options are available only when the exposure mode is set to P, S, A, or M. Autofocus mode cannot be specified if Scene Auto Selector is active for the exposure mode.
