Introduction I love the new Nikon 1 line of cameras! When they were first introduced, I purchased both the Nikon V1 and the Nikon J1, and all four lenses available for them. There's a tiny, flat 10mm wide-angle lens that's perfect for everyday photography--even under low light conditions. The J1 comes in a kit with a versatile 10-30mm zoom lens, and if that doesn't have enough zoom-in "reach" for you, Nikon offers a relatively inexpensive ($250) 30-110mm telephoto lens. All these lenses are easy to snap on and snap off with the press of a button and a twist. However, if you don't want to change lenses all the time, Nikon also offers a 10-100mm super zoom with an 11X magnification range. It's more expensive (at $750), but it makes a lot of sense if you're shooting movies with the J1, as its long range (the equivalent of 27-270mm) virtually silent voice-coil motor and three-speed power zoom are perfect for video with the camera locked down on a tripod. But, of course, you don't need a tripod or an expensive super zoom to use the J1 camera. It does a great job with the components in the box you walked out of the store with.
