Selecting a Focus Point

The Sony Alpha SLT uses 15 different focus points to calculate correct focus. In the Auto and SCN modes, as well as the Sweep Panorama mode, or when the Smile Shutter is activated, the focus point is selected automatically by the camera. In the semi-automatic and manual modes, you can allow the camera to select the focus point automatically, or you can specify which focus point should be used.

You make your decision about how the focus point is chosen by setting the AF area through the Function menu. There are four AF area options, shown in Figure 1.18, and also described in Chapter 5. Press the Fn button, navigate to the AF area selection on the left side of the screen, press the center controller button, and select one of these four choices. Press the center controller button again to confirm.
