Chapter 7 Shooting Movies > Preparing to Shoot Video

Preparing to Shoot Video

Before you start, you’ll want to review the special movie settings first discussed in Chapter 3. These options are as follows.

File Format

The file format is the type of video file you capture and store on your memory card. Your choice of file format affects image quality, image characteristics, and, potentially, your editing and output options. Your choices in the Movie 1 menu’s File Format listings include only AVCHD 60i/60p (the default), or MP4. Outside North America and other countries that use the NTSC video system, you may see AVCDH 50i/60p offered instead.

The AVCHD format is the highest quality option available with the A65, and produces movies recorded at 1920 × 1080 pixels, with five additional choices of size/quality selected in the Record Setting menu entry, described next. If you select MP4, you have two choices of image size, 1440 × 1080 and 640 × 480 pixels, both of lower image quality.
