Preparing for Online Editing

You can use several finishing tools to conform programs created on other Avid editing systems or those that are provided as an EDL. This section continues the exploration of the online finishing process by discussing some of the decisions and configurations you should make before beginning the conform using each of these tools.

Choosing the Online Editing System

Avid offers three nonlinear editing systems, all of which are considered top of the line: Avid Media Composer, Avid Symphony, and Avid DS (see Figure 12.1).

Each system is capable of real-time, high-definition uncompressed editing, compositing and color correction. Why choose one over the other?

Media Composer is your general purpose, prime-time editing system for everything from offline to online. Its effects and color-correction capabilities will handle the needs of most productions.
