Lesson 13 Mastering the Media > Relinking Media Files

Relinking Media Files

You use Relink to restore the pointers between the clip or sequence and their associated media files. These links may be broken, for example, when you consolidate or transcode. In Lesson 4, you learned about collaboration techniques that may also require you to relink sequences to media.

In addition, you learned how you can use a three-stage process—unlinking, modifying, and relinking—to add and remove tracks from clips.

Note: Relinking is not the same as reconnecting media in Final Cut Pro. Reconnecting is when you update a clip’s metadata to store the file path to a media file. Relinking is when Media Composer re-evaluates metadata using criteria that you specify for media files and clips, and re-establishes the relationships between the clips and media.
