Chapter 18 Layout Techniques for Parts

18 Layout Techniques for Parts

After preparing the full score, you can prepare the parts. Although you can certainly do so in the same project, as I have said before, I think it wiser to do so in a separate project.

1. Save the project under another name, such as 1m1-parts.

2. Change the link in the Score Editor to the Content link (yellow link icon).

3. Unlock/relock the screenset.

4. Make sure Page Setup is letter size (if you are printing on 8.5 × 11" paper).

I choose my first part, the flute, and it appears as you see in Figure 18.1.

Much of what I will now change is totally subjective aesthetically. In my full score, I want the bar numbers centered, above the measure, and circled. I also want to see the long name at the beginning of the first line and short names on the subsequent lines. This is not what I want for parts, so I return to the Numbers and Names settings under Layout in the Score Window. See Figure 18.2. In Figure 18.3, you can see my settings for the full score.
