Get Started: Assessing Your Skills

Whenever I write a resume, I think of answering the first question that runs through the minds of potential employers:

What Can You Do for Me?

Employers must see clear, concise reasons to consider you as soon as they pick up your resume. Keep throwing reasons at them, especially relevant keywords related to your skills and industry preference. The more you give them, the better. Put yourself in their shoes and pretend that you’re reading a resume from someone you’ve never met. Is it enough to write that you’re “skilled” in customer service? Or do you need to be specific? Compare a simplistic statement on your resume to this one: “Personally communicate with staff, management, and customers regarding company procedures and product lines.”
