Appendix B Capturing Tape-Based Media > Capturing Your Footage

Capturing Your Footage

Now that you’re system is set up, capture some footage! You can capture the entire tape on-the-fly, capture individual clips, or capture a series of clips in a batch.

Capturing a Tape on-the-Fly

Capturing an entire tape on-the-fly is a very common workflow. It’s convenient because you simply load a tape and cue up the recording. It also gives you unrestricted access to all the footage on the tape. The downside? You may not need it all and unnecessarily use up drive space.

To capture a tape on-the-fly:

1. Load the tape you want to capture into the camera.

2. Open the bin where you want to store your clips (or create a new one and name it).

3. With that bin highlighted, choose BIN > GO TO CAPTURE MODE or press CTRL+B (Windows) or COMMAND+B (Mac). The Capture tool opens, as shown in Figure B.9, as does the Select Tape dialog box.
