In Lesson 4, you worked with the Top and Tail tools. These forms of trimming extract or extend segment frames based on the position indicator. For this lesson, you take a more hands-on approach—manually dragging an edit point to a new position using the Overwrite Trim button in the Smart tool. Overwrite Trim physically moves an edit point earlier or later, simultaneously changing the duration of the incoming and outgoing clips. See Figure 5.3.
Figure 5.3
Selecting the Overwrite Trim button in the Smart Tool palette trims an edit point but does not change the overall duration of a sequence.
As you can see in Figure 5.3, the Overwrite Trim button in the Smart Tool palette is red. Just like the Overwrite button, the Lift button, and the Lift/Overwrite Segment Mode button in the Smart Tool palette. Rather than explain the Overwrite Trim tool first, see the results for yourself.
