The actual cell value is not affected when you apply number formatting. The Number group Dollar signs ($), percent signs (%), and the number of decimal places are examples of number formatting. By using number formats, you can make your worksheets easier to understand and call attention to specific data. The Number group, shown in Exhibit 5-6, provides several tools for formatting numbers.
