The iPhoto '11 Interface

Even if you have previously used other versions of iPhoto, you may feel at a bit of a loss when you open iPhoto '11 for the first time. Apple overhauled the interface and gave it a new layout that helps you take advantage of all the features the program offers.

What's tricky about iPhoto is that the layout of the program changes slightly depending on what you're doing. For example, while you are editing a photo, you'll see different buttons and toolbars than you will when you are organizing your photos or creating a book or card.

I'll show you the complete layouts for all the functions in iPhoto in the appropriate sections of this book. For now, however, check out Figure 1–3, which shows you how iPhoto appears each time you launch the application.
