CHAPTER 15: Where to Go Next…

C H A P T E R  15

Where to Go Next…

Over the course of this book, we have covered a large number of topics in a considerable amount of depth. We have looked at load balancing from almost every conceivable angle. We have examined the following:

  • Content cacheing
  • DNS load balancing
  • HTTP load balancing
  • Database load balancing
  • SSL load balancing
  • Clustering for higher performance
  • Load balancing in the cloud
  • IPv6

This is quite a large amount of content to have covered, but this list is by no means exhaustive. Load balancing as you are well aware by now is a method for getting the best performance out of a system for your money. It maximizes the return you get on the investments you have made to your systems.

This, of course, means load balancing will never die. There will always be more of a drive to extend the performance and capabilities of systems, and this means there is always more to learn. So from here, we need to discuss some of the many other avenues you can look at to further increase performance. Many of these areas are highly specialized and would take more space than we have to go over them in any reasonable amount of depth.
