There's a need to view project management from a different angle. Understand and appreciate functionalities like financial and legal issues, risk management, and the role of the PMO. It's also important to appreciate the transition and change management that is a part of almost every project, and to recognize that it also needs to be managed formally like a project. In many large projects, there is a separate person designated as a transition and change manager. Finally, soft skills are important. Your emotional quotient can be improved by proper training efforts. I strongly believe in the school of thought that says great managers can be developed. You don't need to be a born leader.
