Performance Monitor
PeopleTools Performance Monitor (PPM) was first introduced in PeopleTools 8.44. It represents a huge effort by PeopleSoft to fully instrument the application and produce a timed-event interface. To put it in terms that an Oracle DBA would recognize, it provides for the application what an Oracle timed event interface (event 10046, level 8) does for the database.
This section provides a brief overview of the utility. I do not explain how to set up and configure every aspect of Performance Monitor. The product documentation in PeopleTools PeopleBook: for Performance Monitor is very detailed,5 and there is a very useful Red Paper.6
Architectural Overview
PeopleSoft uses PeopleTools to monitor PeopleTools. So you don’t have learn a completely new technology, it is based on something you are already used to. Performance Monitor is a part of PeopleTools, so it is not separately licensed.
