This game will be a straightforward side-scroller (sometimes called platformer for the platforms the player jumps on). The object of the game will be to complete the level, collecting coins to gain points along the way. If you have ever played Super Mario Brothers, Contra, or Sonic the Hedgehog, you will be familiar with the basic gameplay. When designing levels, they should be relatively easy in the beginning, increasing in complexity as the player progresses through the game. We do not work through the creation of all the levels, but you will have the graphic assets and knowledge basics to take this game to the next level (literally).
You also need to come up with a story that goes along with the game. Who is the player? Why is she trying to get to the other side? Why are some of the entities bad? Determining the story behind the game will help you keep the overall design of the levels, character interactions, and goals of the game at the forefront of your game decisions, making for more compelling gameplay.
