My journey as business analyst and information architect has been immeasurably enhanced since I learned how to use mind mapping tools. The benefit of working with a system that visually and interactively captures thought processes and structures and then reflects those processes and structures back to the people you are working with is its incredible efficiency compared to taking notes and writing those notes into a document that few people read thoroughly or carefully (or at all!), which then requires follow-up meetings to clarify misunderstandings. Facilitating shared understanding is a critical step to getting to a shared commitment to a course of action, because without shared understanding and commitment, the probability of succeeding....
