Creating Shadows

Even without the Pro version of Unity, you can still add the effects of shadows on your terrain and objects. Primarily, you can use a combination of terrain painting, lightmaps, and projectors to give the effect of objects casting shadows.

Lightmaps

Chapter 5 briefly mentioned lightmaps and how they can be useful for painting shadows on terrain. Now you’ll actually create the illusion of cast shadows on the terrain by painting up a custom lightmap.
