More than just the leftovers…
To a plug-in it might seem underwhelming to be lumped into the “other” category, and I’m even including the Dither and Sound Field plug-ins in this chapter too since they are too small a group for their own chapter. At first glance, these plug-ins may seem a little less glamorous, a little less intriguing, and a little less celebrated than the rest of the plug-in suite. But don’t let the categorization or plain interfaces fool you: these are some of the most convenient, useful, and even critical tools you may reach for during the recording process.
These plug-ins function more as utilities, measuring devices, and tools rather than creative special effects. Certainly a few tools such as the AIR Stereo Width and the Reverse plug-ins are meant to enhance audio and so fall more into the creative realm. This collection of tools could easily be compared to the basic tape measure, screwdrivers, and hammer of your home toolbox—kind of plain, but absolutely essential.
