Throughout most of this chapter, you will be creating empty Combinators and then creating devices within the Combinator. However, that’s not the only way to make a Combinator patch. If you find that you have a group of devices in your Reason song that are working together in a useful way, you can combine them into a Combinator patch (Combi) that can be opened later in other songs as well. This comes in especially handy when using effects devices that have no Save Patch functionality.
In an empty rack, create an MClass Mastering Combi, followed by a Mixer 14:2 and Dr. Octo Rex. (This step is not pictured.)
Load the following patch into Dr. Octo Rex: Reason Factory Sound Bank > Dr Rex Drum Loops > Abstract HipHop > Trh36_Middle-Skool_090_Grif.rx2. (It’s the last patch in the folder.)
(These drums are going to sound very big after the next few steps.) Create a Scream 4 Sound Destruction Unit under Dr.Rex and turn the Body Type knob to D.
Turn up the Scale knob to 9 o’clock.
Turn up the Auto knob to 9 o’clock.
Turn the Resonance knob all the way up. That’s what I’m talking about.

Turn down the Tempo to 90.
Click the Run button on Dr. Octo Rex.

Turn up the Scale knob to 9 o’clock.
Turn up the Auto knob to 9 o’clock.
Turn the Resonance knob all the way up. That’s what I’m talking about.
Shift-click on Dr. Octo Rex and Scream 4. Then right-click on either device and select Combine from the context menu.
Click the Combinator’s Save Patch button and choose a name you’ll remember (such as Big Fat MiddleSkool Teacher).
To uncombine, right-click on the Combinator and choose Uncombine from the context menu.
