Most image editing applications offer many tools for creating masks, and you’ll often find yourself using these tools in combination. Some tools, for example, are more appropriate for masking complex subjects, such as hair or fine detail. Other tools are more appropriate for masking geometric shapes or large areas of color. For building complex masks, you’ll use a mixture of these tools.
We don’t have enough room to go into each of these tools in detail, but this overview should give you an idea of what can be done with each of these tools. A little experimentation should help you understand when and how to use them, and Photoshop’s built-in Help files can provide details on specific parameters and adjustments.
