The aim of The Tour Book is to give you a thorough guide to every aspect of the modern concert industry. Although it is extremely important and useful to know about contracts, safety tips, and the roles of the people with whom you will be working, none of that matters without the actual music. The music needs to be created, and in this chapter we will look at how this is done.

Although I have no idea what style or genre of music you are personally creating, I know you will use equipment to perform live. Some of this equipment is the actual instruments; other gear may include turntables and samplers, for instance. There is also the public address (PA) system used to amplify your sound for an audience, and maybe lights and video projections.
