Props

Sometimes the distinction of what is a prop and what isn’t is somewhat vague. Technically, anything other than clothing can be called a prop, including hair; however, for this book we shall define props as items used by a character, like a gun or cane, or objects in a scene that are not fit to the character.

Character Props

Character props are props that a character carries either in her hand or attached to her body or clothing. A jewelry prop is shown in Figure 8.1.

Character props can also be things like weapons, as shown in Figure 8.2.

Weapons like guns, staffs, swords, and so on can be carried in a holster or sheath, but often they are held in the hand, as shown in Figure 8.2. To get a weapon to fit in a character’s hand and to move with the character, you need to follow these steps:
