While still in high school, she sold needlepoint designs to manufacturers and created a cover for a trade magazine. After graduating from Syracuse University with a BFA in textile design, she worked as a textile and wallpaper designer for over twenty years. After retiring from the textile industry, Arlene put her talents toward creating realistic paintings in colored pencil reminiscent of the Old Masters. Arlene achieved signature membership status in the Colored Pencil Society of America by having her works accepted in the national exhibi- tion the first three years she entered, and two years later she received her five-year merit award. In addition to being a member of the CPSA, Arlene is on the board of directors of the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club and is a member of the International Guild of Realism. Her colored pencil paintings have won many awards in regional and national exhibitions, and she has had work published in Ameri- can Artist Drawing magazine. Her painting You Too Can Paint Like a Master was selected to be in a traveling museum show during 20082010 curated by the International Guild of Realism. Arlene teaches her techniques on Long Island, New York, where she lives, as well as nationally and in Canada. She and her friend Gemma Gylling started a Web board (www.scribbletalk.com) for artists who use drawing mediums, where she freely gives her advice. Her work can be viewed at www.arlenesteinberg.com.
