14. NOOK Friends, Facebook, Twitter, and... > Adding Friends to NOOK Friends
The first thing you’ll want to do is invite people to be NOOK Friends with you. After all, you can’t throw a party if you haven’t invited anyone.
Note
Even folks who don’t have a NOOK can still be your NOOK Friends. They won’t be able to participate fully—for example, they obviously won’t be able to download NOOK books. But they can still get recommendations, quotes from books, and so on. Friends who don’t have NOOKs still need a Barnes & Noble account, though. If they don’t already have one, they can sign up, either before you send an invitation, or while accepting your invitation.
To invite a friend:

Tap the Add Friend button. A screen appears asking whether you want to use the NOOK Contacts app to invite friends, use Facebook, find friends from your Google contacts, or instead invite a friend via email.
