A resistor (Figure 6-6) is the simplest of all circuit components; it simply resists the flow of electricity. A resistor has two terminals and is not polarized. Resistors have many uses and applications in a circuit, including limiting the flow of electricity to protect delicate components, making filters to remove unwanted signal noise, providing default voltage values for switches (as a pull-up or pull-down resistor), reducing voltages with a voltage divider, etc.
