Know Your Electronic Components
Next, we’ll describe some of the more common components that you’ll use in your projects. Chances are, if you’ve built any of the projects in the book you’ll have at least a passing familiarity with these parts, but if not, read on!
Resistors
A resistor (Figure 6-6) is the simplest of all circuit components; it simply resists the flow of electricity. A resistor has two terminals and is not polarized. Resistors have many uses and applications in a circuit, including limiting the flow of electricity to protect delicate components, making filters to remove unwanted signal noise, providing default voltage values for switches (as a pull-up or pull-down resistor), reducing voltages with a voltage divider, etc.
