Building Instructions

The Gripperbot is a complicated build, all the more so because it includes a pair of Wii controllers! Never fear, we’ll show you how to build a pair of Lego arm guards (also known as bracers) as well as the robot itself.

Bracers

The first thing we’re going to build is the armbands (also known as bracers) that serve as the robot’s controllers (Figure 7-6). There will be two of them, one for each arm, each equipped with an Arduino, an XBee wireless module (see Chapter 10 for more details on XBees), a Solarbotics NunChucky board, and a Wii Nunchuk controller.

For each bracer, start with an Arduino Uno with an XBee module plugged into it and a Solarbotics NunChucky breakout board added on. The Nunchuk gets plugged into the NunChucky. A 3-AA battery pack gets plugged into the DC jack on the Arduino. You can see this setup illustrated in Figure 7-7.
