The Overview plus Data pattern refers to a roll-up or summary of the table’s content displayed above the individual rows of data. My favorite example of this in a web app is in Discover’s SpendAnalyzer.
In mobile apps, like Bank of America’s accounts page, the available balance in the savings account (overview) is shown in large font over the account details (data). In the other example from NASDAQ.com, the overview is fixed above the content, so you can scroll through the portfolio without loosing the summary.
Adobe Site Catalyst uses a graph for the summary; however, the pie chart design needs improvement since the legend is illegible. Proofpoint does a nice job of incorporating the legend with the data.
