But in order to perceive "one," a field of "nothing" is necessary. In many cultures, the circle also represents the concept of "nothing" by its nature of emptiness. And so it is--as with most archetypes--that the symbol of the circle embodies the paradox of both everything and nothing. Though mod- ern culture elevates absolutes to the status of "truth"--such as good and evil,
