Szabo, T. L. (2004). Diagnostic ultrasound imaging: Inside out. Boston, MA: Elsevier Academic. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Professor Thomas L. Szabo, BS, MS, PhD has over forty years' acoustics research experience in government, industrial, and academic laboratories. From 1970 to 1981, he conducted research on signal processing acoustic devices at Air Force Cambridge Research Labs, later part of Rome Air Development Center. From 1979 through 1980, he was at Oxford University, United Kingdom, developing acoustic imaging for locating faults in coal seams. He joined Hewlett Packard in 1981 to develop ultrasonic imaging systems. Since 2001, he has been a research professor at Boston University in the Biomedical Engineering and Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Departments exploring multimodal imaging and new applications of ultrasound. His publications include over eighty papers, four book chapters, and a book on ultrasound imaging. Among his awards are the 1973 Best Paper in IEEE Transactions on Sonics and Ultrasonics, a U.S. Meritorious Service Medal, and a Hewlett Packard Fellowship. He is a fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine and a senior life member of the IEEE.
