Beyond the Web

Switching mediums doesn't dictate what you can and cannot do. A couple of years ago, print posters that promoted events, products, or services often displayed a web address, which would often result in people following these steps:

  • Launching a browser application on the mobile device
  • Click into the address bar
  • Try to type in a long web address that consisted of many special characters while also walking around
  • Retype the long web address because of some typo as a result of walking around
  • Load the page again

It was a frustrating process until Quick Response (QR) codes became popular. Unlike traditional barcodes, which are capable of only displaying data like product prices or descriptions, QR codes are capable of much more like browsing or bookmarking a website. All a user has to do is scan the code, leaving the rest up to the smartphone or tablet. It's just another way to make your relationship with your users more accessible.
