HOW TO BUILD AN IT FINANCIAL CASE

This is one of the examples in the book from which you might gain by attempting to work through it yourself, before you look at the solution and before you read the explanations that follow it. I shall, quite deliberately, not give you any guidelines in advance, beyond the principles already discussed in earlier chapters. The reason is this. Many people experience difficulty with the task of building IT financial cases. The solution and explanations will have more relevance to you if you have already experienced the difficulty.

You may, of course, not wish to tackle the problem yourself. As I said in the Preface, if you can’t stand numbers, then ignore them and just follow the logic in the narrative. Just continue reading, treating the example, its solution and the detailed explanations as a continuous part of the text. For some of the items in the example, alternative answers may be valid, depending on what assumptions you choose to make about the points in question.
