Ext plugins provide an unparalleled customization experience for developers, allowing you to change anything in Liferay to operate the way you want it to. Although hooks are powerful, nothing gives you as much power to customize Liferay as Ext plugins. You do need to be careful how you use it, though, in order to create more easily maintained code.

Some of the most common reasons to use the Ext environment in Liferay 6.0 include customizing Struts actions, adding various listeners, adding servlet filters to Liferay, implementing your own permission checker, and so on. You can deploy Ext to any application server that Liferay supports. You should now feel comfortable navigating the Ext environment and using it to make customizations.
