EM Application Monitoring & Tuning

Having properly configured an application for performance monitoring by EM, and assuming that the database tuning infrastructure is operational, there are two primary means by which applications as well as the database as a whole may be monitored.

The first is via the real-time graphical monitors presented throughout the EM interface. These will almost immediately highlight unusual activity using any number of database measures. They provide a series of drill-down tools which progressively uncover the precise actions contributing to the performance anomalies. We will consider this next.

The second, and even more powerful method, is to run one of several very sophisticated advisors against the ADDM snapshots. These advisors will recommend remedial action to be taken after an exhaustive analysis of the execution statistics. We will consider this in the following section.
