Chapter 9. Advanced Audio Editing

Chapter 9. Advanced Audio Editing

Audio applications are generally divided into two main categories: multitrack recording applications and sample editors. Sample-editing applications give users lots of control over a single stereo or mono audio file; multitrack applications substitute nicely for multitrack tape decks but have limited options for editing and processing the tracks.

Cubase, however, breaks free of these categories, allowing you to perform both sample editing and multitrack recording in the same window. What's more, Cubase provides tons of processing options, and you can perform a lot of processing with almost no strain on your CPU. Additionally, because all editing in Cubase is nondestructive, you can save a history of the effects you've applied so that, if necessary, you can undo them afterward.
