Advanced Effects 182 11. Automate the echo time knob by holding down the Alt key (PC) or the Option key (Mac) and clicking on the knob to display the modulation window. Draw or record events, keeping between 10 and 40ms for the flange/phase effect. Adjust the dry/wet knob and the decay knob to modify the effect level. Combine this technique with the EQ and gate functions to further modify the sound. Having the decay knob turned all the way up produces the best results for shorter millisecond values. This is not to say that you should keep it up all the time; go with whatever sounds best for you and your song. Body Surfing with the Scream Destruction Unit The Scream Destruction Unit, shown in Figure 9.10, was obviously intended to add a grungy sort of rock-n-roll distortion to sounds, but it's better used to add abstract effects and modulations.
